Athletics Briefs: Kogo and Chepkurui dominate in Kapsabet; Kigen defends in France; Zimbabwean Cutbert Nyasango wins in Jaen...and more.

KAPSABET (KEN, Jan 16): Julius Kogo and Georgina Chepkurui easily won the 6th Re-discover Nandi National Social Security Fund 10km road race in Kapsabet. Kogo achieved 27:54 ahead of Nelphat Sirma (28:19) and Gilbert Kipkosgei (28:25). Chepkurui took the women's race in 32:33 with Gladys Jebet second (32:47) and Rose Jelimo third (33:22).

ROVERETO (ITA, Jan 16): Kenyan Thomas Longosiwa won the 34th Cross della Vallagarina (EA CC Permit) with 26:07 at 8.69 km. Distant second Ethiopian Zelalem Bacha (26:24) beating another Kenyan Paul Sugut (26:38). In women´s 5.59 km, top place for 9:39 steeple runner Alemu Birtukan from Ethiopia in 18:59. Second was former Bahraini now Italian runner Nadia Ejaffini (19:11) and European CC winner Tetyana Holovchenko of Ukraine (19:25) was third.

LE MANS (FRA, Jan 16): Kenyan Mike Kigen defended his title at 30th Cross Ouest-France. His final time at 9.1 km was 25:05. Mark Kiptoo was second (25:31) ahead of French champion Abdellatif Meftah (25:45) and world junior champion Dennis Masai (25:52). Berlin 2009 10,000m bronze medalist Wude Ayalew won the women´s 4.9 km in 15:16. Ethiopian Bertukan Feyisa was second (15:23) ahead of Esther Chemtai (15:33) and Ejegayehu Dibaba of Ethiopia (15:40).

HAMILTON (BER, Jan 16): Shadrack Biwot from Kenya and Tania Jones from Canada won the 2011 Half Marathon during Bermuda running weekend. Biwott clocked 1:07:14 and Jones 1:28:55.

KINMEN (TPE, Jan 16): Kenyan Peter Cherus won the Kinmen Maraton which took place on Taiwan’s outlying island of Kinmen in cold weather after 2:19:22. Kenya claimed number one position also in women category as Viola Bor clocked 2:40:56.

NAPLES (USA, Jan 16): Nicholas Kurgat won the 23rd Naples Half-Marathon in 1:03:26. Close second  was Ethiopian Sisay Ezkyas (also 1:03:26). Women winner Gebre Belainesh achieved new course record 1:09:58. Desiree Davila as second clocked 1:10:34.

MARSEILLE (FRA, Jan 16): After tough duel Kenyan Josphat Muraga beat in 27:34 at Jean Bouin Memorial CC race Algerian Brahim Chettah (the same 27:34).

JAEN (ESP, Jan 16): Zimbabwean Cutbert Nyasango won the 27th road race in Jaen with 25:36 at 8.7 km. Interestingly European 1500 m champion Arturo Casado was 3rd (25:49). Another miler Manuel Olmedo ended 12th (27:26). Moroccan Soud Kambouchia won the women´s race at the same distance (29:47).

MALIANO (ESP, Jan 16): Kenyan Isaiah Koech won the 23rd Punta de Parayas cross race at 10.09 km in 28:52 clearly ahead of his team-mate Paul Kemboi (29:46). French Mokhtar Benhari was 6th (31:19) and steeple runner Eliseo Martin 7th (also 31:19). Ethiopian Firehiwot Goshu was the best at 6.89 km in 24:13. Moroccan top 1500 m runner Btissam Lakhouad ended 5th (25:19).
