Weekend Athletics Round-up MARRAKECH (MAR, Jan 29): Kenyan Stephen Tum won the 23rd Marrakech Marathon in fast 2:08:51. Second Ethiopian Gezahegn Girma 2:09:29 ahead of another Kenyan Daniel Rono 2:09:50. Home women win for Soumiya Labani in 2:34:56. Solid times also in half marathon when Girma Berhanu achieved 1:01:59 ahead of Rachid Kisri 1:02:17 and best woman Malika Asahsah 1:11:14. In total 7000 participants. NAPOLI (ITA, Jan 29): Napoli Marathon winners were veteran Ornella Ferrara in 2:41:10 and Moroccan Nasef Ahmed 2:18:54. ELDORET (KEN, Jan 29):   Edwin Kipyego won the 21st edition of the Discovery Half Marathon in 1:02:30.   Last year London marathon winner Emmanuel Mutai was 6th in 1:02:55. Kenyan Kiplimo Kimutai HAWASSA (ETH, May 1): Kiplimo Kimutai of Kenya broke the course record in 1:03:10 winning the second edition of the EVERY ONE half-marathon. Second Gishu Duda 1:03:54. The women’s race came down to a sprint finish and was won by Sisay Measo in 1:16:41. The races took place at an altitude of 1700 m with temperatures rising to above 30 degrees towards the end of the morning. ST. WENDEL (GER, May 1): Kenyan wins at Globus Marathon. Wilson Melly clocked 2:19:24 and Esther Macharia 2:41:52. SPOKANE (USA, May 1): Kenyan Simon Ndirangu used a final sprint to the finish line to win the Men's Elite Race in the 35th Lilac Bloomsday Run. Ndirangu unofficially ran a time of 33:57, just six seconds off the Bloomsday record. It is Ndirangu's second-ever Bloomsday, also running in 2007. ADDIS ABABA (ETH, Feb 20): Berlin 10000m silver winner Meselech Melkamu won the Ethiopian CC Trials with 21:23 at 8 km in the absence of olympic winner Tirunesh Dibaba. Second was Hiwot Ayalew (24:31) who beat Belaynesh Oljira (24:37) still ahead of Wude Ayalew (24:40) and Genzebe Dibaba (24:48). Men´s 12 km race winner was young Hunegaw Mesfin in 32:20. Second was Diamond League winner Imane Merga 32:33 ahead of Dino Sefer (32:35). Marathon runner Feyisa Lelisa was fourth (32:40). Tesfaye Chernet won boys 8 km junior competition (21:32) and the World Youth 2009 medalist Genet Yalew the girls 6 km (18:27). VERONA (ITA, Feb 20): 30-years old Kenyan Albert Matebor won the 10th Verona Marathon in personal best 2:09:16 (he had 2:09:33 from Frankfurt 2007). Philemon Kipchumba as second achieved 2:11:11.
