Kenya's Dickson Chumba wins Marathon Eindhoven in course record 2:05:47

Kenya's Dickson Chumba set a new course record when he won the 2012 De Lage Landen Marathon Eindhoven in a personal best of 2:05:46 on Sunday.

Chumba, 25, took two seconds off the previous course record of 2:05:48 set by Kenya's Jafred Kipchumba in 2011.

He moved into the lead at 28km and was never headed, coming home 24 seconds in front of his compatriot Francis Chepkwony, who took more than four minutes off his previous best with 2:06:11.

It is Chumba's second victory in his six marathons, also winning last year in Rome. He also has three second-place finishes to his name.

"However, I am disappointed I didn't run under 2:05," said Chumba, who was on course to break that barrier until 39km, when he started to tire. Six men finished under two hours nine minutes.

Ethiopia's Aberume Mekuria took the women's race in a personal best of 2:27:20.

2019 All-Nigeria Track and Field Championships set for Kaduna - July 22-27

The Board of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has approved the dates of July 22 to 27 to hold its annual All-Nigeria championships and national trials at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna ahead of major International competitions coming up this year. Among such competitions is the ECOWAS Region 2 Athletics Junior Championship in Niamey, Niger Republic, the 12th All Africa Games in Morocco and the IAAF World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
