The mother of one who last month reclaimed the national high jump title she lost without a fight last year due to procreation also by her feat in Germany equalled the three year-old national record she set in Abuja on July 3,2008.
“I’m really delighted that everything is coming into place for me. I have been training very hard and I believe I will join the league of 2m jumpers very soon,” revealed an ecstatic Amata yesterday after she returned to her base in Italy.
“I believe in my ability and I am definite this year will be the year I will break that barrier. It is top of my wish-list for the year and God is already showing me the signs,” she further said, adding that she has not lost focus on her target of retaining her All Africa Games title as well as soaring into the final of her event in Daegu, South Korea next month at the IAAF World Championships in Athletics.
“I’m focused on my goals for this year. I believe I have come back stronger from childbirth and have nothing to distract me anymore,” she said.
Amata has jumped to the fore as Nigeria's brightest hope for a medal in Daegu and heavily favoured to repeat as champion in Maputo, Mozambique at the 10th All Africa Games.
