Athletics Briefs: Kariuki wins Gran Marathon Pacifico; Ebuya dominate in Alcobendas; Jeilan fast in Yokohama...and more


MAZATLAN (MEX, Dec 5):
Kenyan Simon Kariuki won Gran Maraton Pacifico in solid 2:14:16. Second home runner of Mexico Daniel Vargas (2:14:51) and third another Kenyan Cosmas Kiplimo (2:18:07). Also in women race win for Kenyan Hyvon Ngetich after 2:44:12.

Isaac Kimayo was the fastest at the half distance with good 1:02:48 ahead of Mexican Carlos Cordero who improved his life-time best to 1:02:59 and another home runner Oscar Ceron (1:03:00).

KAMPALA (UGA, Dec 5): Kenyan wins at Kampala Marathon. Donald Sambu clocked 2:19:44 and Tabitha Kibet 2:43:44. Ugandan wins at least at the half distance by Stephen Kiprotich (1:03:22) and former steeple world medalist Docus Inzikuru (1:18:42

ALCOBENDAS (ESP, Dec 5): Terrain World champion Joseph Ebuya from Kenya is continuing in his domination this season and clearly won the 29th Cross Internacional de la Constitución in Alcobendas. At 10.1 km his winning time was 29:37.

Second was his Eritrean rival and silver medalist from last World CC Championships Teklemariam Medhin (29:56). Third place for Kidane Tadese (30:09) ahead of best home runner Sergio Sanchez (30:14).

Monica Rosa of Portugal won women´s 5.9 km in 20:15 beating Moroccans Bouchra Chaabi 20:16 and Saoud Kambouchia 29:30.

YOKOHAMA (JPN, Dec 5):
Nittai University Time Trials continued on the track with 5000m races. Ethiopian Ibrahim Jeilan clocked fast 13:15.18 ahead of Kenyan Clement Langat 13:15.81.

Also sub 13:20 for third Gideon Ngatuny 13:18.71 and Caleb Ndiku 13:18.96. Best Japanese Yuichiro Ueno was 7th (13:33.15). Kasumi Nishihara was the fastest in women´s race with life-time best 15:25.50.

ADDIS ABABA (ETH, Dec 4): IAAF informs that marathon runner Koreni Jelila and track hopeful Bekana Daba were the winners of the inaugural Ethiopian Clubs Cross Country Championships held at the Jan Meda race course.

Jelila clocked 29:03 at 8 km, Daba got 37:30 at 12 km. Daba plans for Dubai Marathon early next year. Second was Mesfin Haile(37:34) ahead of another top favorite and world class marathon runner Feyisa Lelisa (37:51). Junior wins for Zewdnesh Ayele (6 km, girls, 21:46) and Misnet Geremew (8 km, boys, 25:11).

CIEZA (ESP, Dec 5): Moroccan wins at 21st Half Marathon of Cieza. Abdellah Tagharrafet achieved 1:03:33 and Fatima Ayachi 1:14:25.

CARCASSONE (FRA, Dec 5): Onesphore Nkunzimana from Burundi emerged at the Cross Nacional in Carcassone as winner of main men race in 25:39. His team-mate Abraham Niyonkuru was second (25:40). In women´s race win for Ethiopian Mekdes Woldu (13:23).

MACAU (MAC, Dec 5): Ethiopian Tekeste Nekatibebe with 2:11:50 personal best won the International Macau Marathon in 2:16:15. Chinese Wang Xueqin was the best woman after 2:37:37 ahead of Kenyan Rose Kerubo 2:38:09.
