IAAF Ambassador Kipketer gets Sopot running towards 2014 World Indoor Championships

More than 700 amateur athletes raced through the streets of Sopot on Thursday (28) to mark the 100-day countdown to the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships. They were joined by IAAF Ambassador Wilson Kipketer, Denmark’s three-time World 800m champion, along with some of Poland’s top athletes, including 2009 World Pole Vault champion Anna Rogowska. Meanwhile, the Ergo Arena – the venue of the World Indoor Championships – welcomed dozens of school children who took part in mini sports competitions and dance shows. Read Full Article:  

Athletics Africa & African Sports Media Network team up for African Sports Award show in Ghana

Two of Africa’s sports media companies; Athletics Africa and African Sports Media Network have decided to join forces to recognize the efforts of Africa’s athletes in a Joint Sports Awards ceremony at the 1st Biennial African Sports Development Conference and Expo to be hosted in Accra Ghana in December 2013. The two CEO’s of both Companies Mr Yomi Omogbeja of Athletics Africa and Mr Leslie Koroma of African Sports Media Network, who have both been running two distinct and separate Awards for African athletes, came to an agreement that it will be very beneficial to run a joint African Sports Awards ceremony that will be hosted during the upcoming African Sports Development Conference and Expo in Accra, Ghana this year and will continue to be held annually in Select Cities across Africa making it a constant fixture in the African Sports landscape. Felix Limo announces international retirement

Felix Limo at home in his tea plantation in Kenya Hulst, The Netherlands - The well-known Kenyan distance runner Felix Limo announced his international retirement on Thursday, after a top-level career that spanned more than a decade. Now 32, Limo first came to prominence when he ran 27:04.54 for 10,000m for second place at the 2000 Van Damme Memorial meeting in the Belgian capital of Brussels. However, Limo quickly found that his forte was racing on the roads. On 21 November 2001, he ran 15km in 41:29 at the Seven Hills Run in the Dutch city of Nijmegen, famously beating Haile Gebrselassie. The time was the inaugural standard for the distance when the IAAF ratified road running world records at the start of 2003 and stood as the best time ever until November 2010. Limo ran his first marathon in 2003 when he finished second in the Amsterdam Marathon in 2:06:42, at the time the second fastest debut ever.
